This week’s article tells the story of two nurses who worked at Amersham hospital during WWII and the 1960s. Today, Amersham Hospital is a large community hospital which provides a range of out-patient clinics, imaging services and therapies. However, for most of the second half of the 1900s it was a general hospital with a casualty department, maternity department and operating theatres, all of which had evolved out of the 1839 Amersham Union Workhouse.
